Why We Exist
We work in contexts affected by poverty, conflict, displacement, climate shocks, inequality and limited access to essential services. Yet we do not define people by their vulnerabilities alone. We recognise communities as knowledge holders, leaders, partners, decision-makers and agents of change, with existing capacities and relationships upon which sustainable solutions can be built.
What We Do
We work across the humanitarian-development-peace nexus through programmes and partnerships that save lives, protect dignity and strengthen resilience. Our work spans humanitarian response, climate resilience and anticipatory action; WASH; health and nutrition; education and youth development; livelihoods and economic empowerment; protection and social inclusion; peacebuilding and social cohesion; recovery and durable solutions; and local capacity and systems strengthening. Across all our work, we prioritise gender equality, disability inclusion, youth leadership, safeguarding and PSEA, accountability to affected people, conflict sensitivity, environmental responsibility, evidence and learning, and community ownership.
Our Approach
We combine local knowledge, community relationships and locally grounded leadership with accountable organisational systems and professional standards for programme quality, financial management, safeguarding, MEAL, risk management and responsible stewardship of resources. Community feedback and evidence inform our decisions, helping us learn, adapt and continuously improve. For us, localisation is more than transferring funding or activities to local actors. It is about voice, leadership, resources, decision-making power, equitable partnerships, fair recognition, risk sharing and respect for local knowledge and capabilities. We seek to strengthen—not replace—existing local capacities and institutions.
